This haiku is so poignant. I love real ships, with sails full-bellied under a windswept sky and this haiku conjured up such a vivid image. But her use of sad and pierce led me to think that the ship maybe carried bad news or perhaps she was the last of her kind... Freya

In the marble sink

lie artichokes lettuce mint,

I love the way Claudia uses colour and texture constrast within her haiku. The marble is hard and cold whereas the green leaves are vivid and organic, standing out against the paleness of the sink. Freya

Amazed we discern
chestnut husks fall down from boughs,

 Again Claudia creates something very different. I always think of pearls as pale, but I suppose the insides of the chestnut husks are pale like pearls - I hadn't really associated the two together before. So thank you Claudia for stretching my imagination and taking me to a new place. Freya

 Loved the "wind urge" in this. And using "scrawls" reproduces the sound of dry leaves on the ground. Brilliant! Freya

Goodness, this one is powerful! Again you have a lovely contrast with deep orange and fresh pale blossoms all building up to that explosion of scents. Orange blossom? I don't know. But I can smell it from here! Freya

This is quite exotic imagery that I played around with in my mind. The first three plants I visualised immediately - salad! And I liked the glass plate they lay upon. But then, mauve lilies? Another flower arrangement? Perhaps Claudia eats lilies in her salads? Then I realised, does it have to make complete sense? Can't it just be artistic? Freya
