above the far sea, reveal
the landscape again

makes a grey veil from which trees
emerge like pale ghosts

Haiku 2-1

January 24th

Bright carpet of trees
softly embroidered with vivid
swaying light citron leaves

What I like about this haiku is the unusual analogy. I normally think of a carpet as being at ground level eg a carpet of bluebells. Turning the canopy of trees into a carpet is different and gives the reader a sense of height as she looks down at the citron leaves. I liked the delicate nature of this carpet that the writer conveys by describing it as "softly embroidered". Freya
