Chive blades stretch upwards,
a golden-winged butterfly
smells their spicy scents

Excellent imagery in this one. The earth bound chives calling the airbourne butterfly to it using its scent. The way the chives stretch upwards is a positive movement, not passive, as I often think plants are. They strive in different ways to us. I also loved the colours - green of chive calling the golden butterfly and then the last line with spicy scents in it, all golden-brown.... Freya

Red bed of petals
lying on a sparkling glass tray,
thyme leaves here and there

This one is intriguing. I love the way the writer juxtaposes textures; red petals look soft to me but they're on a sparkling glass tray! And the thyme leaves - where did they come from? I thought at first Claudia had been flower arranging but was confused by the thyme leaves. Then I thought about it and realised that I use marjoram and oregano flowers in my attempts at flower arranging, so why not thyme? Roses and thyme - that's what I came away with! Freya

A beige vase of clay
stands rust brown kitchen cloths,
scissors at its side

Again another instant, vivid scene. The contrast of colours is good - pale beige on rust brown. That's quite startling. And then the shift from clay and cloth to sharp metal. I thought of a vase prepared for flower arranging. Freya
